Self Confidence Sukarelawan PMI dalam Melakukan Pertolongan Pertama pada Korban Kecelakaan Lalu Lintas

Introduction: Traffic accidents are one of the main causes of death and serious injuries that require appropriate pre-hospital emergency treatment. The role of Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) volunteers as first responders is crucial to save lives and prevent serious injuries. The courage and effectiveness of volunteers in providing first aid are significantly influenced by their level of self-confidence when facing emergency situations. Methods: Quantitative research with a descriptive survey design. This study involved 43 PMI volunteer respondents selected using accidental sampling technique. Data collection used a self-confidence questionnaire consisting of 23 valid (0.741–0.951) and reliable (Cronbach's Alpha 0.979–0.981) statements. Data analysis was performed univariately to produce a frequency distribution. Results: Respondent characteristics showed a median age of 21 years, the majority were female (60%), the highest education was high school/vocational high school (65%), had a length of service of 24–48 months (51.2%), and a frequency of helping 1–2 times in the last 3 months (55.8%). The majority of PMI volunteers had a strong level of self-confidence (24 respondents (56%), followed by 17 respondents (39.5%) in the strong average category, and 1 respondent each in the very strong and weak average categories (2.3%). No respondents had a weak level of self-confidence (0%). Discussion: The majority of PMI volunteers had strong self-confidence in providing first aid to traffic accident victims, supported by organizational experience, cognitive readiness, and ongoing training support.
